UKAI Projects is excited to partner with our friends at Derooted Immersive with support from GarageCube to present an early version of a 2-month program for eight new media artists. This is a trial version of the program. Participants must cover hard costs ($150). Note that the final version carry a tuition of $1495 + HST and this is a one-time offer.

About this course

UKAI Projects is excited to partner with our friends at Derooted Immersive with support from GarageCube to present an early version of a 2-month program for eight new media artists.

This is a trial version of the program. Participants must cover hard costs ($150). Note that the final version carry a tuition of $1495 + HST and this is a one-time offer.

With focus on MadMapper software, the participants will learn:

  • the MadMapper software environment
  • projection: signal flow, projection mapping, projection blend, and installation
  • lighting: DMX, Pixel Mapping, Universes, building custom fixtures library inside MadMapper
  • basics of coding and building materials
  • using AI to work within MadMapper
  • basics of sensors and integration within MadMapper
  • interactive applications of the software for installations

Participants will be provided with:

  • free MadMapper and Modul8 software for the duration of the course
  • 30% education discount for purchasing MadMapper after the completion of the course
  • Access to UKAI Projects’ space (The Bridge) for mentorship, working on projects, and prototyping for the duration of the program
  • exhibition at the end to showcase work with industry representatives attending
  • potential for future work with Derooted Immersive

When:

December 6 & 13 from 5-8pm at The Bridge: The course will begin

December 13 to January 5th: Open work. Opportunity to take learning from initial sessions and develop project ideas for development in January

January 5th onwards: Two additional workshop dates based on project progress

February: Exhibition showcase of the works

Where:

The course will take place in-person in Toronto at The Bridge (379 Adelaide Street West – 4th Floor). Participants must be present in Toronto for the dates of the course and showcase.

Tuition Fee:

$150 per person to cover materials and rentals (the course is valued at $1495 + HST)

Course Instructors

Kasra Goodarznezhad

Prototyping Lead at UKAI Projects

 

Kasra Goodarznezhad is a new media artist based in Toronto. His main focus is Performance and Installation. After studying Graphic Design in Tehran, Iran, he came to Toronto to continue his studies at OCAD University and graduated from the Integrated Media program, winning his major’s medal award. He started his career as a New Media artist around 2011. Since then, he’s done numerous projects in photography, video, lighting design, installation, and digital arts. Throughout his career as a new media artist, Kasra has participated in various research and results-based residencies and has exhibited work in Canada and internationally.
Kasra has founded two Ontario-based collectives, Komite and Displaced collective, and throughout their operation from 2019 to 2023, he has curated, promoted and showcased works by different artists as well as his own work. Kasra is currently active at UKAI Projects as Prototyping Lead. Kasra’s work deals with concepts of displacement, repression, alienation, propaganda, and censorship. In his work, Kasra looks to explore the subjective complexities of being an individual living in a society that forces you to behave in ways sanctioned by those who hold power.

 

Simón Rojas

Creative Director at Derooted Immersive

El Ekeko | Simón Rojas Gajardo (b. Santiago, Chile) is a multi-disciplinary artist & creative technologist with a background in music, theatre, and graphic arts. His body of work is predominantly based on immersive and interactive multi-media installations which create illusion and augmentations to a viewers reality. Using light, sound, and an endless sandbox of technologies he explores the function and limitations of sensory inputs, both in humans and machines to transform and manipulate the human experience through vignettes of phenomenology.

He is the Co-Founder and Creative Director of Derooted Immersive, a creative technologies studio based in Toronto, Canada since 2008. Simón continues to perform and exhibit as part of various festivals, collaborations, and groups showings between Canada, Chile, and Spain.

This intensive course is in partnership with Derooted Immersive, with support from GarageCube
